Where is the measure of my days?

"O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!  Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you.  Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!"  Psalm 39:4-5

Been pondering this all day after reading it this morning.  It set in deeper still while I was holding baby Isaac, who was just born yesterday and is now 17 months old.   He was a bit whiney since it was almost naptime and I was soaking in his essence with his head on my shoulder and remarking to Steve that he too was a whiney little boy.  I have precious memories of him holding on to me just like Isaac did in the same exact position.  One of his first complete sentences at 17 months was "hold me!"  I remember that only because Paige was just born and he wanted some attention.  But, in a blink of an eye, Steve now towers over me and drives me around town.  Indeed, our days are but a breath.

Enjoy your days to the fullest, especially with them little ones!  They don't stay that way for very long...

House full of music!

Every Tuesday, Les Miserables is playing on the TV screen, in preparation for Tar's musical in April and because Isaac, our charge, seems to enjoy it as background noise!   But today, Tar and Steve are playing their violin and flute again together as Tehillah Chamber Players has started up this semester and for the past hour we've been hearing The Pied Piper, selections from Star Wars and bits of Narnia.   It is music to my ears.  I love that they are learning new songs... playing together and giving the rest of us some musical cheer!

Iced out...

Steve's swim season ended prematurely with the cancellation of their last meet due to icy road conditions last weekend.   Another whole year before he can compete but being the swimmer that he is, he continues to swim on his own and with his brothers!  We're proud of his improvement and discipline.

The Light at the end of the Tunnel...

Not only does Howard have to take 106, yes you heard me right, 106 credit units to graduate with his Masters in Divinity BUT he must also pass 3 catechism tests and an English Bible Exam.   Well, thankfully, the 6 weeks in between semesters, he was able, by the Grace of God, pass all 4 of those tests and now a big weight is lifted off of his shoulders and he can enjoy his last 3 classes of this degree.  The last semester of this ten year process began this week and we only have 11 weeks to go.   We are wondering what the next step is of our journey when he has officially graduated.   I have my plans and if I could have my way, I would take steps A, B, and C and then execute, but there is such a thing as God's will and other people's plans too.  So I wait, we wait.  There are things 'in the works' of which I dare not speak about as they could go south.  Is that the right term?  But, whether these plans go our way or not, I am confident that whichever way it turns, He will be right with us in the process and He has our good in mind.

We can see a dim light, getting brighter with every week that passes.  Soon, seminary will be over!  We will then rejoice.

Another job prospect...

for Steve!  Mac swim is hiring instructors/coaches and since the Y waits until you are 16, I figured it was probably the same with MAC. But, I got up the courage and asked about it anyways and I am so glad I did!   I spoke with the lady who does the hiring and she asked me to bring in my son so she could talk to him more about it.  The best things about this job is that you can be 15 and it would be during the schoolyear starting in the fall after his summer job ends and the hours would be doable with his junior year of academics. Also, it would give him teaching experience as one of his hopes is to be a swim coach someday.  We set up a time for him to meet her in a couple of weeks. Pray that he finds favor and gets offered a job.

On another note.  Today, I saw a wonderful thing in the pool.   After Steve swam with his friend, he was coaching/teaching his brothers on their strokes and technique.  And, Sam and Chris were listening.  Last summer, Steve tried to do this same thing but without much luck as it is one thing to teach a kid who doesn't know you but it is another thing entirely to teach your own brothers.  They don't listen to him very well without me interceding most of the time.  But today, I saw that small glimpse of change where they respected, listened and then performed for their older brother.   It was a beautiful thing to see.  If Steve does get this job, he will make a pretty remarkable instructor.

As for Tar... a few more applications into two more places of employment and so we wait and pray.  The last two apps she filled out have a better chance of hire for her as it is seasonal work and definitely geared toward the younger employee.

We shall see what the Lord has in mind for these two!
